Dallas Love Field (KDAL) turns 94 in October. Started in 1917 as an Army airfield, today Love Field continues to be an aviation fixture. Once home to the now defunct Braniff Airways, is now home to the "no frills" carrier Southwest Airlines. Celebrate this Dallas icon with a departure/arrival Friday Night Sept. 30th 2300z-0300z. KDAL will be fully staffed for this event.

Time to dust off those aircraft you rarely fly and enjoy the view with heavy tin passing just a couple thousand feet below you! We'll be supporting Abilene Rgnl Airport (KABI), Majors Airport (KGVT) and East Texas Rgnl Airport (KGGG) with full ATC staffing for all VFR departures. We'll also be staffing the D10 TRACON for all Class BRAVO transitions across Dallas/Fort Worth Intl Airport (KDFW). Important Event Notes : ALL VFR Aircraft crossing DFW Class BRAVO Airspace and across DFW Airport from WEST to EAST will proceed Direct (FUZ) Ranger VOR, then Direct (CVE) Cowboy VOR at an altitude of either 3500' or 13,500'. In 2009, we flew west. In 2010, we flew east. In 2011, we'll fly both directions and meet in the middle! Light Up America is back in action and ready to invade VATUSA airspace once again. This year, the lights are sucked into the central states. One by one, sections of the United States will light up, leading traffic to places like Denver, Dallas, and Chicago! This year's event will better suit pilots wanting to travel from Hawaii and Alaska as west coast controllers will light up first to allow traffic to reach the mainland. Plan to depart from the oceans and meet in the middle. As each section begins to light up, all of VATUSA will be lit up together for one hour with the United States mainland being lit up for three hours before the lights die down. Or will they?

Hello, The American Pacific Group (APG) which is comprised of American Flight Airways (AFA) and Pacific Airways (PAY) will have an event on Sunday, April 10th, 2011, at Dallas-Forth Worth International Airport, Dallas, TX (KDFW). This event is our VATSIM Sunday and occurs every Sunday at different airports throughout the US, Canada and Mexico. It is an opportunity for our pilots to fly to one destination in a multi-player environment. We should begin arriving in your airspace around 4:30pm EDT (20:30Z) with landings between 5:00pm EDT (21:00Z) and 6:00pm EDT (2200Z). The only requirement for our pilots is they should try to land at KDFW between 2100Z and 2200Z and since we do not have a pre-arranged departure airport, you'll see us coming from any direction. Our nearest hubs are in KPHX, KATL (AFA) and KMIA, KDEN (Pacific). However, pilots may arrive from anywhere we fly to. The vast majority of our online pilots are well experienced in ATC procedures, charts and arrival procedures so that should make your jobs a little easier and more fun. Also, I post links to all relevant charts and information concerning the airport on our forum notice as well as anything you want to convey to our pilots concerning any special requests or procedures. Lately our VATSIM Sunday events have been attracting around 20 pilots on a regular basis, sometimes more, so any ATC you can provide for us during that time is appreciated. Sizzle is the biggest event of the year for ZFW and we expect a heavy volume of traffic; 300+ operations in 2008. Please check the charts to expedite smooth traffic-flow. Preferred STAR into the Dallas TRACON are BOWIE 9 (northwest), BONHAM 5 (northeast), CEDAR CREEK 6 (southeast), and GLEN ROSE 8 (southwest). Preferred DP out of Dallas TRACON are one of 16 RNAV.

United Virtual said their Saturday Scramble will go to DFW and they will have USAairways VA and Virtual Air Canada with them. Delta Virtual Airlines, Southwest VA, American Virtual Airlines, and we assume American Airlines Virtual have all confirmed they plan to fly into DFW.

Sizzle has been posted all over the place. Skyblue Radio is running ads, it's posted on the VATUSA forum and VATSIM forum, all the calendars have it. It will be huge! We guarantee it will be Hottest Event of Summer so don't miss it!

VATUSA Anniversary Event

VATUSA celebrates 8 years this coming weekend as we host the VATUSA Anniversary and Appreciation Night event. This event features four different locations with one theme in common: Gateways. America is known for its many gateways to new discoveries and America itself is its own gateway as it was discovered as a new world a few hundred years ago. VATUSA also provides new gateways into Air Traffic Control on the VATSIM network and puts forth 100% effort into making your experience within VATUSA airspace a positive one. Because VATUSA cannot run without its pilots, each of the four featured gateway airports hosts one or two virtual airline sponsors that will spotlight that airport during the event. Not sure how we missed getting this up earlier, but ZFW is a relatively close neighbor to KSTL. Should be some departures out of our airspace.

Light Up America

The Light Up America event is scheduled for May 30th from 2000-0400z. To help visualize this event, think of a wave, or a batton race, sweeping across America from east coast to west coast. Each hour another set of ARTCC will come online. By the third hour all ARTCC in the USA should be "lit up."

Each ARTCC will have a featured airport. Most of the departures will take place on the east coast, while most of the arrivals will take place on the west coast.

Similar to CTP events, for Light Up America, pilots will be invited to sign up for slots. These slots will ensure pilots fly with the wave of ATC so that they do not encounter an ARTCC that is closing or has not opened yet. There are 310 slots being opened for this event.
